After getting up early to make sure we had clear skies on today's tour, they turned up with a bus that couldn't fit everyone on board. No worries, I probably needed the couple of cups of coca tea for the altitude anyway. When the real bus arrived, we jumped in and climbed to 4500 metres and popped through a tunnel where the road deteriorated somewhat. We drove down a stunning valley to the pre Inka ruins of Chavin de Hauntar.
It is an amazing site with catacombs and monoliths, although a was a little concerned with our guides insistence on the link between his ancestors and his use of drugs. A very interesting day that finished with us staying at the hotel for dinner after a heathy stint at the bar.
