Machu Picchu

Another early start from the hotel.
We were picked up and taken up the Sacred Valley stopping on the way at Inka ruins until,we reached Ollantaytambo where we caught the train to Aquas Calientas.
I hadn't had a runner all day and was feeling pretty chuffed. That with the jetlag fading and Aquas Calientas being at only 1500 meters, I started feeling better than I had in quite some time. Gastro turned to gusto and over excitement turned to over indulgence. After a few beers on the train we checked into our hotel and quickly made our way the the hot springs which turned out to be a fetid pool of muck.
We grabbed some more beers and jumped in with the 2,500 or so other people. After a few Cuban rums it didn't seem so bad.
We finished off the evening at a local restaurant where the local boys were terrorised by a particularly large moth. The waiter received rapturous applause when he managed to net it and remove it from the restaurant. Peru was beaten by Chile in the soccer.
After a quick breakfast, we all met in the hotel lobby by our chaperone who insisted we run after her down to the bus line which was about 400 meters long. We suffered through a treacherous 30 minute bus ride up the mountain to Machu Picchu. Our tour guide met us at the bus stop and herded us through the 5 Temples tour then let us scatter about unsupervised. The place is awesome but fully appreciated from a higher vantage point.
